Hi dog, sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing.... I know its no consolation but you are not alone with these sort of issues...

I would be inclined to consider first restoring you computer (using a System Restore Point created before the problem started) as this will often do the trick and is a quick and simple fix ( usually!)

This procedure should not affect your data files( docs photos etc) however it's always wise to check that your back ups are all OK, contain everything you need (stuff you don't want to lose permanently) and you have at least one extra verified copy kept safe offsite on removable media.

Let us know if using the System Restore Point solves the problem.

the next step to consider, if the previous step doesn't fix it, is to perform a "Refresh"

here's the information that you might need for all of this.

Hi Paws,

Thanks for the quick response ... I tried the system restore and got a  message saying that it did not do the restore because of something to do with my antivirus protecting a file or something like that. (should have written it down, but it was sometime around midnight and after 3 previous tries, I was soooo tired) so I shut off the antivirus and tried again and got the same message.

If I do the refresh won't I lose programs and files and such? Also, it says I need the media in case Windows asks for missing files. I never got such when I bought the laptop in question. I got the laptop brand new from NewEgg, but it did come with a media disk or flash stick.

Another thing, I have lousy internet, so I can't download most things at home so, sometimes it might take me a little bit to download and respond and such!

I'm trying to get hold of Windows Tech Support to find out what/how to get a backup of Windows for the Refresh, but I can't seem to connect to them at all.

Can you help with this as well?
