Can someone please suggest a straight forward description of the OneDrive feature (app?) that came with my W8.1 pc? --- not the ads toting all its features but a simple explanation of how it works?

Absent that, I have come to these understandings about OneDrive. I'd appreciate confirmation, corrections, and clarifications.

a. The files I save on OneDrive: are they physically  stored on my PC or in someone's (MS ?) server?

b. Can I think of OneDrive as a folder under Desktop\MyComputer\\C:?

Thanks. .... batpark

a. They are stored on a Microsoft server

b. Not really, no.

OneDrive is a file hosting (cloud) service that allows users to sync files and later access them from a web browser or mobile device.

Edit by paws, sorry Doc, I must really learn to type a little quicker!

Hi batpark

Hope this is not too simple, but I tend to look at it this way.

I can either have my data files on my own computer

or on

someone else's

If I want to keep my stuff on someone else's computer then it's often called  in the "cloud"

An example of using the cloud is:

One Drive

Hope this helps.

Here's chapter and verse if your not happy with my simple way of looking at things

Doc, Paws: Thanks much. I will read that URL.

I saw an MS ad for OneDrive that shows that MS charges a minimum of $6/mo. But, so far as I am aware, I am not paying any fee for using OneDrive. Is that because it was bundled in to the purchase price of the pc?  ,,, batpark
