phoebe_s78,            Not that I'm aware of, since this sort of hardware should be "plug n play" (even if it's internal, it should be picked up by the OS as soon... Go to the full post »

Sorry that I`m late to the ball and thank you britechguy for the additional assistance

Hello phoebe_s78,

Once we had the exact model series number we were able to check to see if there was in fact a BT module fitted as standard on the notebook, if yours does you would have been expected to have also received the following BT mouse PA3847U-1ETB Toshiba Bluetooth Laser Mouse, Gloss Black, if you did not, there is most likely no BT module fitted, I can suggest another way to check if you like, if only to confirm if there is or isn't a BT module present.

My laptop didn't come with a Bluetooth laser mouse. :/ Can I hear the other way to check? Just to make sure. Thanks!

I'm not sure if you got the notification for my last reply, so I'll just post it again :)

Apologies for the late reply, no internet connection for a couple of days I'm afraid  :(

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here,  this will hopefully provide us with information about all of your computer hardware.

No worries! :) I'd actually rather not create a speccy profile, if that's okay. I was just wondering about the other way to find out about the bluetooth in my computer. Since it seems I don't have it in my computer, what kind of Bluetooth dongle do you suggest I buy if I wanted one?

A Speccy url is completely safe to publish as it does not contain any personal information or product codes, your decision though and no problem with it, you could try running and checking it yourself, if BT is present it will be listed under Adapters.

As per the reply #12 of britechguy;

Oh, yes, adding WiFi or Bluetooth is a matter of buying a simple USB dongle (and it's usually micro sized) and plugging that in (at least that's it in the vast majority of cases).

For a selection of very inexpensive ones you can get from Asia see this search at dx.com.  [Disclaimer:  I have no financial or other interest in dx.com.  I've simply purchased this sort of thing from them in the past.  There are myriad sources for these devices.]

phoebe_s78:

Based on my experience, and to bastardize Gertrude Stein:  "A Bluetooth dongle is a Bluetooth dongle is a Bluetooth dongle."

Lol I was just making sure. I was researching bluetooth dongles and some are apparently "better" than others and I was just wondering.

And I might do a speccy profile on my own, but I think I'll probably just get a dongle bc it's easier. I was just wondering what other ways there were to check.

I will not argue that there are almost certainly differences between Bluetooth dongles, but most of those aren't something you'd be able to detect except by testing the dongle in question out in the environment where it will be used.  The actual hardware in these things is not "rocket science" and some will definitely be made better than others, but I've certainly not found price to be any sort of direct indication of quality in this realm of electronics.

The ultra cheap WiFi dongles I've purchased over the years have, on the whole, functioned as well or better than much more expensive ones that friends have purchased.

When the price point is under $10, often under $5, and the least expensive domestic equivalent (and that's sometimes the same product if you take a close look) is 3 times pricier or more I've just decided to spend my money and take my chances.  I think I've had one complete disaster (non-functional) but the amount of money I've saved over time more than makes up for that.

Sorry for the wait for the reply! Thank you for the input, I really appreciate it! I think I'm just going to purchase a dongle online. :)

Many of the BT dongle devices that are available have been on the market for some time so make sure that any potential purchase is at least compatible with Windows 8/8.1 or states it is Windows 10 compatible, I would also suggest that for any device that you purchase that does not ship with Windows 10 drivers that you use Windows 10 own generic BT drivers.

I'd go so far as to say even if the device does ship with drivers it's very unlikely that those that come with it are "designed for Windows 10."  I'd first try letting Windows 10 find a driver for the device, and if it does and all functions as it should not even touching any driver software that came with the device.  Bluetooth, by its very nature, will be one of those, "this is obviously working/this is obviously not working" things that's very easy to know which situation you have.

What I meant only worded differently  :) most of the devices are from the XP to Windows 7 period when Windows did not have any generic BT drivers, from 8 onwards Windows does and likewise I would use and keep those if they worked without issue, the less third party software involved the less chance of conflicts.
