The Grand kids bought Grandma a tablet so she could see photos they post on Facebook.  Internet is scarce in the area, and cell service is almost nonexistent.  

 

Fortunately one of her daughters lives across the street, and she has internet.  Ideally we would like to boost the signal from her wireless router over to Grandma's house since Grandma won't be using it enough to get service at her place.  The range is approximately 200' from the router to the nearest indoor outlet.

 

The signal does reach the front yard, but is too weak to get inside.  We had planned on getting an extender for Grandma's house, but it seems I'll need to boost the signal from the source.

 

I saw another post where they show Mesh Networking for farmland, and though there is a lot of farm land here, I'm not sure that's needed in this situation, but maybe I'm wrong.

 

Current Router is Linksys E1500.

 

Since this router doesn't have external Antenna, can we use a Range extender with Antenna, and a Directional Antenna like this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004WPUHXO

 

or is there a better option?

twice to get a signal to another house.  A third time I put one in and since they were so isolated I left it unencrypted.  Had to go back and encrypt it because people in a distant building were using the signal..  Appears your current router is not DSL so leave it in place and connect one of its Ethernet ports to the new router 4 ports.  Go into the new router and turn off DHCP and give it an ip address and mask compatible with the old network & give it the other router's address as its default gateway.  Probably would help to have a range extender at grandma's on the side of the house closest to the source so that the signal goes through the whole house.  I've used:  http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B004YAYM06 If the signal is too weak when the extender is plugged in to the wall outlet you can extend it with a 3 wire extension cord so that it can look through a window.  (do not use surge suppressor power strips).  IF you buy them from Amazon and it doesn't work you can always send them  back tho you might have to take a 20% hit.

I traveled to their house and configured everything.  The signal just barely reaches, but looks like it will work.
