Hi all

I've recently decided to take the plunge and build my very first PC, which I would use primarily for gaming. Since I'm kind of out of my depth, I just want to check some things in terms of the budget. I don't want to pay anymore than I have to, so want to make sure I'm not thinking of anything over the top. I want the PC to comfortably play games to a PS4/XB1 standard, considering I have a PS4 so I don't want to go backwards. Depending on how much it will cost to build a PC at a similar level, it may set me back.

Someone on another forum built me this as an example, but it is way over my price limit which was around £400 ($600), but I don't know if my budget is unrealistic. I can't afford the £600 set up that was suggested on that link though...is there anyway I can cut down the price? Is there anything on there that is unnecessary?

I'm really eager to do it, it's just it reaches a point where although I want to move from console gaming, paying more than £400 is not cost effective for me.

I've intentionally left off peripherals. They aren't included in my budget.

A pretty good build but we will see if we can cut the cost down without cutting performance.

The WiFi card could go if you connect by Ethernet cable to the Web?

Hi thanks for the reply.

Well originally I would have said I need the WiFi card but reading your post reminded me that the location where I intend to put the PC doesn't get good WiFi signal anyway. So I'm going to buy a power line extender instead meaning I need no WiFi card, however the power line extender is the same price so it doesn't make any difference overall !

Yeah, thanks. I currently only have one PS4 game which is also PC so I'm not massively worried about exclusives. There are more games for the PC that I'm interested in.

Sorry for the delay.

I have to admit defeat in getting same/better performance than the linked built, given the budget.  I do have an alternative scenario, put it forward in the other forum, see what they say.

Latest Z170 platform, very fast i3 6320 Duel core with Hyper Threading, (won't bottleneck a high end GPU,) fast DDR4 RAM, no GPU.   Gets you a very capable computer that is highly upgradeable.   I estimate slightly better performance than a PS4, playing same games at the same settings.   Get used to a new OS, add a GPU down the track.

Gday samboo1.

Just enquiring if you went ahead with a build, and which one?   Do you need further assistance.?   An update would be appreciated.

Thanks.
