I have Mcaffy spyware protection but nothing seems to work.

Please print these instructions or copy them into a text file on your desktop for easy access.

If at any stage you do not see a file or an entry, make a note of it. Continue with the fix and report all exceptions / deviations to me in your next post after completing all the steps.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them to a new folder on your desktop. DONT RUN THESE PROGRAMS YET !!!!

CWShredder
L2mfix

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder


Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Save the log file.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

2. Run CWShredder

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

3. Run Hijack This

Run Hijack This. The following items need to be fixed -

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked. Close Hijack This.

4. Uninstall Rogue programs

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control Panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall or remove the following programs -

Uninstall180search assistant
SpySheriff

Close all windows.

5. Delete Rogue files

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Delete the following files and folders -

There are a few things still to be fixed on Hijack This. Once we complete this, we can then address the issue of restoring the settings for Desktop. It good that the L2mfix log is clear

Run Hijack This and click on Scan. Close all windows other than Hijack This, check the boxes next to the following items and click on Fix Checked -

Reoot the PC in Safe Mode.

the problem is that i cannot boot in safe mode. In the boot menu (when i press F8 on reboot) there is no option for safe mode, only:

This is how you can reboot your computer in Safe Mode :

1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Please do the fix again from the beginning -

I had a detailed look at your last HJT log.

I figured that you dont have any firewall or anti-virus running !!! And you have picked up an infection even while we were cleaning the earlier infection.

In my signature, at the bottom of this message there are 6 items listed as - Good Stuff to have. Please download and install all of them, all the products are free. Please post a HJT log after you complete installing all those products.

Once I verify that all those products are in place I will clean up your PC. Please realise that it is useless to clean your PC without sufficient security in place as your PC will become infected as soon or even before it is cleaned.
