Hi all,
My work has a big TV screen that has information sent to it from a PC that runs Embedded Windows XP.
When the system boots up it goes through the motions, the black Windows XP splash screen briefly appears, then it redraws the screen as though windows is just about to start (mouse icon appears) but instead a message box appears with the title "winlogon.exe - Corrupt File".
And the text within the message says (something like) "The file or directory C:\Windows\AppPatch is corrupt or unreadable. Please run the Checkdisk utility."
I don't have the original disks but made a bootable USB disk from another copy of Windows XP (not 'embedded' just a normal copy?). I then booted from this and went into Recovery Console in order to try and run checkdisk.
When I typed chkdsk c: /r I got a message saying that "autochk.exe couldn't be located so please type in the full path to autochk".
I found autochk inside C:/Windows/System32/autochk.exe so typed that in as the path but it still said it couldn't be found?
(I also tried just typing C:/Windows/System32/ but to no avail).
I was tempted to try 'fixboot' or 'fixmbr' but I'm not 100% sure what these do and whether they would fix anything bearing in mind that the operating system does look like it's trying to start.
So.......... I'm stuck. So I thought I would ask the experts :-)
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks for all/any help you can give me.
John :-)
