Hi JHiggins201,

I hope that Donna will not mind me jumping in here.

it would be diagnostically significant if you borrowed a USB keyboard, plugged it in and see if that improves things (use a USB keyboard that you know works 100% on other machines)

Let us know if things are improved, or worse, or about the same.

Regards

Oh gosh! Please do! Paws, your expertise is always welcome.

I thought that I suggested that previously. Must have been a fleeting thought while I was tying something else. That's what happens when you have the daughter looking over your shoulder saying, "Come on, Mom, we have to go, you're making us late!!"

Thank you Paws,
Donna :)

Actually, I went to the store the other day and bought me a mouse, where I was, they weren't selling any keyboards, unfortunately. I am also aware that, being a standard keyboard, I have no option to permanently turn off my keyboard. I could go in and uninstall its driver, but Windows reinstalls it upon start-up, which means I'll have to do it every time I turn on my PC.

Maybe I'll buy a USB keyboard sometime in the future, but I guess there is no solution to this problem.

Hi JHiggins201,

I would recommend you borrow one,  to see how it affects your computer....,as this is a quick and simple test.

I would also recommend that you download a live distro of Linux ( Linux Puppy is good) burn the .iso as an image (a copy wont work it must be an image) and then boot from it. Puppy will run happily in RAM, you don't want to install anything)

If Puppy runs your keyboard OK then we have practically ruled out a hardware issue as the primary problem, so it will help us know where to focus our attention.

post back and let us know how you get on.

@Donna, you are very gracious Ma'am, thank you.

Regards

Actually, I have no one to borrow a USB keyboard from, and I also don't have any discs to burn a .iso image on.

Ok.

however you only need one CD "writable" to burn the .iso and a packet of 10 costs less than £5 at a local store.

Asda, Wallmart in the USA sell them for less than this and you can also buy them online at reduced prices... a keyboard can be purchased ( if you really cant find someone to lend you one for 10 minutes) online for only a pound or two or a dollar or three....

Its sure is cheaper than buying a new computer!

The number of updates is variable depending on the exact installation concerned, however Donna was "spot on"

....several hundred covers it!

I had a feeling it would be that number I had forgotten since Sophomore training.

Anyway back to topic: I would say that the problem would lay down to one possible problem and that it might be under the touchpad and keyboard ribbons. I wouldn't trust MS anyway with their new OS. Seems to blow hardware up all the time.
