My wife's computer is on W7.  It was working fine, but Thursday I discovered it hadn't installed a windows update in three years.  I tried to do it manually, but got an error message.  i ran the registry repairer on Glary Utilities and the error went away.

Windows update said I had 189 important updates.  After downloading them and configuring windows there was an error.  Only 20 of the updates got installed.  I tried again and it installed 10 of the remaining 169 updates.  It reported an error after configuring 15% and reversed them.  I tried again with exactly the same results.  Being a complete fool, I tried a third time and now I get an immediate error message that Glary doesn't help with.

The computer is still working normally, aside from the update issue.

Can I go to W10?  I presume the upgrade doesn't care anything about the preexisting W7 system, so the error doesn't matter.  Is that correct?  Or am I asking for troubles upgrading before fixing the problem.  Oddly, MS never offered me an upgrade.  Her computer is newer than mine, and mine upgraded just fine.

So, how prudent would it be to go to W10?

When you install windows 10 you will be getting a whole new operating system... All OS files will be new

So it would be the same as a re-install

The upgrade offer is generated via windows updates, so if you do not have the update you will not get the offer :)

All upgraded.  Certainly faster than trying to fix the update problem.  Thanks.
