Hi, I purchased a pre-owned PC locally and am wondering if there's a way to change the previous owner's name, which appears in the Command Prompt (ie C:\Users\Jason). I'd like to do this without having to reformat and fresh install OS. Thanks in advance!

Hi Ma Duce,

Try the steps below to change the name of the user account.

  • Click Start located in the bottom left corner.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Click User Accounts and Family Safety.
  • Click User Accounts.
  • Click Change your account name.
  • Put in your new name and click change name.

If that does not work try the instructions located on this website.
