Hello. I am having trouble getting windows update. I get a blank screen. It has worked in the past. I don't know what has changed. From another post I read a response that said to download and install scripten.exe version 6.5. I did this and it did not resolve the problem. I also set security and privacy to default on Internet Explorer. This did not resolve the problem. Some things that might help someone to help me:

I am using Firefox as my main browser.
I am using Zone Alarm as my Firewall.
( I have set Zone Alarm to allow full privilages for Automatic updates, Internet Explorer)
Also, I have tried turning Zone Alarm firewall OFF and I get the same result.
Also, I have turned off the Windows XP firewall so there are no conflicts.

When I try to access Windows Update I get a blank screen and the following error message:

Line: 50
Char: 1
Error: Object Expected
Code: 0
URL: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Hi :

Using Firefox to actually go to the Update site will take you to a page which will tell you to go to the download site for your updates or switch to using IE.

You are having a problem getting the auto updates started, right??

Ron

P.S. Might want to double-check this :

System Requirements for Windows XP Service Pack 2

You may also have to re-install Windows Update Installer. Think it's version 3.something for XP.

Thanks to all who have responded so quickly. To clarify, I stated I was using Firefox as my browser. This is my main internet browser. However, I am not trying to access Windows update through Firefox. Internet Explorer is being used to attempt to access Windows Update. I appologize for any confusion I caused.

I tried the start/run fixs from gerryf.

The first one regsvr32 jscript.dll was successful

The second one regsvr32 MSXML3.dll was not
It said DLL initialization routine failed.

I tried it again anyway and it still did not work.

One other piece of info that might help a lot........I am using Panda Platinum. Also this is a work computer tied into a network server. I am simply trying to keep my computer up to date so I don't have problems. There is no IT department to speak of.

I saw on another forum to try a fix from www.cexx.org which involved installing a LSPFix.exe file. This was a fix which evovled from Panda causing problems.
I tried this and rebooted to no avail.

Thanks,

I had tried the fix recommended on the Windows website and it did not work. I went ahead and did it again via the link you provided. I installed it and rebooted. It still does not work. Thanks though. These are all great suggestions. We just haven't found the right one yet. I appreciate everything.
