My friend has a tablet that was given to him along with the password written down, but won't accept it. Tried it with cap, all lower case, nothing works. It is only 8 digits letters and numbers. How can he even use this device? He is 64, I am 54 and not real computer save, but can follow instructions well.

BIOS or Operating System's passwords are there for the purpose related to Security and Privacy to protect the legitimate owner of a machine. While there are many locations on the Internet that might help you learn about managing passwords for a machine's BIOS or Operating System, we a G2G do not assist in what amounts to hacking past a machine's Security and Privacy safeguards.

While such requests are often legitimate, and come from users who experience exactly the kind of problem that you post, we have no way of determining legitimate vs. not legitimate, therefore we do not respond to such requests.

Your best course of action is to ask the person that passed on the tablet to access the device and you then change the password to something of your own, if that is not possible, take the tablet to a local tech or tech store and have them see if they can access the device, you will need proof of ownership such as the sales receipt, picture ID such as a driving licence or passport and a utility bill that has your address on it.

Hi Todm007,

Welcome to GeeksToGo! :)

It saddens me that your friend is experiencing trouble accessing the tablet that he was given, though it is against forum policy to help retrieve lost passwords. Please see our Terms of Use under 3, the 14th bullet down:

Due to the nature of online help we are not able to verify ownership, and will not be able to help bypass or recover any user passwords, cd keys, license codes, serial numbers, etc.

I do apologize, but this is for good reason as you can see. Is there anyway that you could contact the original owner and ask if they recall changing the password from what they had written down? Maybe they could access the tablet for you and remove the password.

Donna :)
