Hi Bruce1270

I always update automatically and doubled checked to make sure this was happening and all the boxes are checked.I have tried for a couple of hours now to install the most recent updates and I am getting an error.  I have looked at the help options but I am not able to get the notification up that it is saying I need ??  The error is 80243004  I haven't gone any further with your other suggestions I thought I should get this sorted out first.  The last updates were 4 & 5th April 2016, any suggestions please? Dawn

Hi Pumpkinace

Try this and let me know if it installs the updates.

1.In the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar, click the Show hidden icons button, and then click Customize.

7704e102-acb8-40b0-b28e-0bbcba515daf_57.
Show hidden icons button

Show hidden icons button in the notification area

2.In Notification Area Icons, under Icons, scroll down to find Windows Update, click the drop-down list next to it, click Show icon and notifications, and then click OK.

3.Go to Windows Update and check for updates again.

Hi Bruce1270

I tried all the things you advised yesterday before I posted.  I have been trying for about 4 hours today and at last I have finally managed to get the updates installed.  Don't know what was wrong as I hadn't changed anything.  I keep up to date with installs etc and do run my malwarebytes regularly which is why I was so upset when something did get in.  It may have been from the hard drive that was corrupt or it could have been the infection that corrupt the hard drive, will never know.  The funny thing is I tell all my family to watch what they click on and what they install and it is always mine that seems to get the problem!  It could be that I am on Windows 7 professional and the rest of my family are on home or normal editions???  I have also installed the other 2 items of software you advised thank you.  I have paid for Malwarebytes and run this regularly so hopefully I should be ok going forward.  I still have some programmes installed eg. ERUNT, NTREGOPT, procexp.exe and Revo Uninstaller should these have gone?  The delfix log has disappeared so will look for this and post shortly.

Cant find the log for the delfix can I run it again or will it cause an issue? I did run it as requested yesterday and a log was raised.  I have done a search and the computer couldn't find the download nor the log so I have downloaded it again but havent run it yet until you say its ok.

Hi pumpkinace

I have been trying for about 4 hours today and at last I have finally managed to get the updates installed.

Phew! That's a long time but glad you got it sorted. :)

The Delfix log may be at C:\Delfix.txt. Double click to open it and post the results. As Delfix removes tools and files it wouldn't show anything if run again.

Delfix should remove most of the tools used during the disinfection process. If you don't wish to keep any others e.g. revo uninstaller, process explorer (these are perfectly safe tools to keep and use) you can remove these through add/remove programs.

Thanks.

Hi Bruce1270

You're on early today.  Yes it was in there, so why didn't my search find it???  Anyways here are the results.  Many thanks.
