Hi njay, Had a look online at the CrystalDisk software and it seems to be well thought of by many people, not sure how good it is with hybrid drives and the same for SMART which was designed f... Go to the full post »

Hi njay,

No firmware updates from HP here did find an advisory for HP desktop SSHDs here

Lot of bad Newegg reviews for that model of drive here btw.

Let us know if you have had any more failure warnings from Windows and I will post some testing info for you.

Hi Phil, thanks for digging around.

The HP Advisory seems to be related to a different model HDD (not used in this model laptop) though. That's not to say that it couldn't occur in other models, of course.

The new HDD has been working fine since installing it in the laptop. It's really weird that I got a SMART error when it was hooked up through USB, though.

I was satisfied with the HDD overall, and I think I'm just going to accept that it's the wine that did it.

Thanks for all of your help. If anything comes up in the future, I'll report back.

Hi njay,

Aye I reckon HP would have corrected the known issue for later drives and was just letting you know that there had been similar issues in the past, as for the wine being the cause, hard to say for sure and hopefully you will not have any further issues and perhaps consider it as being a gremlin in the system that has now been corrected.

You are most welcome btw :) if we don`t hear back from you after a week or so we will consider the issue resolved, likewise any re occurrence please let us know
