Can you tell us what if anything happens if you hold down the F11 key when you press the power on button on the notebook, we are looking for a Troubleshoot option if there is one.

Time to test the HDD, see option two Seatools for DOS on USB guide here
 
Regardless of the HDD test results you are going to need to purchase recovery media on a USB thumb drive direct from HP here

Have you managed to test the HDD yet Breannamorgan16.

 

If for some reason you cannot use the Seatools for DOS test see if the HP Diagnostic utility is available to you, if it is, use that to test the HDD, see HP guide here

The HP test if available to you would be easier as it does not involve downloading anything Perform a Hard Drive Self Test from the BIOS
