Hello, I am new in this forum. I registered because I have a question and I don't find a satisfactory answer anywhere online.

 

I recently bought a microphone (Trust Starzz) and my laptop (Windows 7) doesn't seem to recognize it.

 

When I plug it in (the plug where there is a microphone and headset marked, didn't find another one where it would fit), the little icon pops up "you just plugged a device in your audio jack", so that means, the plug is working, nothing wrong on that side.

 

When I open Audacity, and talk through the microphone, I don't hear my voice in the microphone (like a singer for example, louder somehow? but maybe that's normal). I then do a second test without the microphone (using the computer mic presumably) and the audio is totally identical. I even tested with the microphone plugged in but the on/off button put on OFF and still Audacity records me with the same sound quality. To me that seems it's always the computer in-built mic that's used.

 

And yes, I already opened the loudspeaker icon, checked that the sound is not on mute. I already went into the "Sound" folder and checked all the devices, even the disabled ones. I have only two devices listed, one default and one disabled. The default one is called Real Tec High Definition. When I talk into the microphone, the little green bars do not move up and down. So it's not that one. Neither with the disabled one, once I put that one on default. I don't think any of the two is my microphone, otherwise it would surely show as Starzz or something.

 

I already went to install microphone for voice recognition (can't remember the exact name) and went through the steps, recording a short sentence, etc. It says ready to go in the end, but also here, I feel I'm not using the microphone but the in-built one.

 

In Audacity I can put the microphone box on "Microsoft mixer" or "Real Tek", so far I have it on Real Tek, but it doesn't change when I use Microsoft Mixer.

 

I had no memory card to install my microphone and it didn't ask me anything to do to install it. I just plugged it in and thought that would be it, but obviously not. Anyone has any ideas what I could still try ? What is this Real Tek ? Is that the built-in microphone ? So far the sound has been ok with that one as well, so I guess I wouldn't even need a hand-held microphone. But I want to find out what's wrong with this. Can it be that the microphone is faulty ? In that case, would the message "you just plugged a device in" appear in the first place ?
