re-read the topic and noticed you said the port is using headphones/amplifier.
is there another option listed there and have you been trying to get the sound back with your headphones plugged in?
ok lets try this, in a terminal type in
alsamixer
this will display all the sound channels for the current sound device in use.
hit the F6 key this will show a list of sound devices, (make a note of them and post it in next reply.) something like
default,
0 followed by device name,
1 followed by device name,
2 followed by device name,
etc etc depending on the number of devices it sees.
i want you to use the up/down arrow keys to highlight the 0 device and hit the enter key to select it.
the screen will show you the channels available for that device.
what i want you to do is use the left and right arrow keys to move from side to side stopping on each channel
use the up arrow key to make sure they are set to 100
any with a square box at the bottom containing MM,
hit the M key so the MM changes to 00,
when you have done this for all the boxes so they all show 00, and everything says 100
hit the F6 key and use the up down arrow keys to select the next device in the list, 1, 2, 3 etc etc and repeat the above steps until you have changed every channel to 100 and any with a box at the bottom from MM to 00 for all the devices shown in the F6 list.
now we have made sure nothing is muted and sound is set at max for everything.
press Ctrl+C keys to leave alsamixer and get back to the command line.
now type in
speaker-test -c2 -t wav
this should play a voice saying right left for each speaker.
let it repeat 2 or 3 times, you will see it displayed in the terminal even if nothing is coming out of your speakers.
press Ctrl+C again to stop it repeating
then post in next reply if sound worked and everything from the time you entered the speaker command to when you stopped it from the terminal.
