Hi,

I have a question. I applied to topica via upwork, had my skype interview, and the interviewer asked me to run a couple of tests to check my internet speed. I want to know if these tests are legit or if he managed to hack my computer? The tests were as follows:

1) First he made me run the run command and type “dxdiag” and “regedit” and share the screen. I can’t rem if there were any others he made me do. Maybe there was one or two more.

2) Then he made me run “ping hn1.vcr.topicanative.edu.vn -t

And about 5 of those...with same command except hn1 changing to hn2 and so forth

3) Then he made me check the speed from website using links “http://hn5.vcr.topicanative.edu.vn/test.html”and so forth. Again 5 of those. with hn’s changing from hn1 to hn5 and everything else remaining the same

Is this legit? Or am I hacked? And if the latter is true, what can I do? I ran several anti virus tests and Malawarebytes tests...however, you never know :(

The speed test appears to be legitimate tho it seems to be limited by his server's Internet connection as it only shows 2 Mbs (vs the 6 Mbs that it shows if I use the regular test).  Ping won't hurt anything.  DXDIAG doesn't hurt anything either.  The regedit is questionable.  What exactly did he have you show him in regedit?  He didn't have you make any changes did he?

Thanks for the reply!

No he just wanted to see the main screen. Which doesn't really give away much I guess.

I guess it proves that you have admin rights on your PC but that's about it.  Suppose it was legit tho a bit odd.
