If I received notices in emails, it would be easier to be more timely in responses, but efforts to implement this capability have failed.

I actually need to use the computer to do some work.  In the middle, it Rebooted.  When it restarted, it started doing a 'scheduled check on C:'  This will day hours or all day and never seemed to even finish before.  So I just shut off and restarted.  It started the check again.  How can I stop this and get back to work, whether periodically interrupted by Reboots or not?
