Hey all,

It has been a while since I last built a computer (2008) I am sure things have changed a lot. I have apple now so none of the self build allowed :)

I gave my old computer to a family member and they are wanting to update it a bit. So I just wanted some clarification that the following combination would be ok. Can you get any mobo that supports socket 1150 intel processors with an i5 processor probably gonna be a haswell 4590. Then obviously make sure the mobo supports DDR3 RAM and get 16GB of RAM.

Also the PSU is 500w I think. graphics card is PCI-E 16x so from looking online that should be ok for now. Will eventually get an SSD but for now the old HDD will do.

Just really want to confirm the first paragraph before I go and buy them from amazon :)

Thanks

:welcome: Dannyjebb

Please provide us with a little more info before we list some parts.

What will be your budget?

The main use for the computer?   If for general purpose, gaming/streaming video/Home entertainment? 8GB of RAM is more than enough.   If for Photo/video/audio editing, or workstation? then yes, 16GB is required.

Brand/model of the case?   So we know what form factor for the MB.

Brand/model of the PSU.

Note, that if your present Windows OS is an OEM version, it is not transferable to a different MB, you would need to purchase a new one, 64bit for 8GB+ of RAM.

Hey, don't know the brand of the case but the current mobo is a micro atx form factor. Looking to spend about 200-300 on the mobo processor and RAM.

It will be used for MAYA autodesk (animation software) I know that it could do with more than an i5 processor but have coped with the current set up AMD 5400+ processor thats ancient haha. So an i5 will be like lightening :) Have a full version of windows 7 so going to use that and then upgrade to windows 10 :) The PSU is a xilencexp480....

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

Picked the i5 4690 ($20 more) for the extra speed over the i5 4590.

Can't get down to your 300, ($ or £.

Cost a little more if you only go with Amazon.
