Hello there! Okay so my friend gave me an old PC his boss got rid of its a Dell XPS 730x. I downloaded windows 7 onto the PC and I think it might be having problems with compatibility. Although, I am not positive as I am using the PC right now but supposedly I should update my BIOS... according to Dell. So I downloaded the XPS730-010006.EXE file and made a bootable flash disk (fat32) and copied the file to the disk. Now when I restarted the computer I had two options at start up f12 and f2. One takes me to a boot menu the other to a more complicated menu neither menu says anything about booting the BIOS from a usb flash drive.. in fact neither menu has any options for updating the BIOS at all from when I can see. Any ideas??

EDIT: Extra Information

I ran a Pre-boot System Assessment (Build 4521) and got an error (not sure if its relevant):

Error Code 0221

MSG: Error Code 2000-0221

MSG: Timer - interval timer not functional

Then I finished the testing and it gave me a report: No diagnostics utility partition identified.

also,

The two options I have for BIOS in the f2 menu are:

*Advanced BIOS Features

    *Bootup Num-Lock    [On]

    *ACPI APIC Support  [Enabled]

and

*BIOS security features

     *Change Supervisor Password

     *Change User Password

how did you create the bootable usb drive?

usual method is to use something like rufus :- https://rufus.akeo.ie/

once you have used rufus to create a bootable usb of your bios file, next you need to restart the pc with the usb stick plugged into the machine, it needs to be plugged in before powering on the pc to make sure the bios/uefi can see it.

now tap the F12 key so you get the boot options from there you should be able to select the usb drive to boot, (might be listed under hard drives) once you have selected the correct device and started the boot process, you should find it will now run the program on the usb stick and start the bios update process.
