Hi,

Can you open the Windows Update settings and change the option to Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them?

Apply the change, close the Windows Update configuration, open the configuration again to confirm that the option changed.

Checking for updates on Windows 7 takes a long time due to some changes done by Microsoft, specially on first scan that is what is happening in your case because we had to reset Windows Update.

It's been running now for 3 hours and 15 minutes. I have to shut it off and take it with me, so I will stop it. There has been no change. c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder is still 2.38 GB, 5618 files, 116 folders.
