With a problematic program,  I decided to go into the registry and carefully remove every entry eluding to the software   That worked but it took forever to close all the entries opened by the search.  Is there a quick way to do that?

You could create a registry script, or .reg file. However, as it's not a GUI and there are no checks before it's run. Translated, you can really mess up your machine. We have a course in GeekU dedicated to registry editing. At the very least, study up on it, and backup your registry before attempting.

I found the quickest way is to hold down the shift key and press the left arrow. Repeat until you get back to the top.

Also, just tried this and it seems to work.

Click on Computer at the top, then shift and left arrow.

Close and reopen regedit and you're back to just the 5 hives showing, at least it did for me.
