Was the file create with TurboTax 2015, or earlier? You'll want to open it with the program used to create it. If when you try to open it, it's not recognized, start a new tax return and it should find the backup file and allow you to open it.

The file was created with TurboTax 2016, printed my data, prepared to e-file, found one error, then accidentally deleted by backup files. Thus, the need to search for the location of my original tax file.

After numerous attempts to locate it, I had to rekey my data. Arduous, but I filed several days before the deadline.

So, no need to locate the file now. But it is important to find where TurboTax records this file on the hard drive. Intuit needs to post this info in its Help FAC file! Love the program, have been using i for years, but this was a serious omission on the part of Intuit.
