Hi

I recently downgraded from windows 10 back to 7 as I had a few problems with it.

Initially updates ran fine but now it just seems to be stuck in a search loop.

Ran the windows Fixit tool and it found the update error 0x80070057

Can anyone please help?

Thank you

James

Hello jimfdowning,

I recently downgraded from windows 10 back to 7

Was this a fresh installation of Windows 7 or was it a roll back to 7 within 30 days of upgrading to Windows 10.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here,  this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Hi

Thanks for replying, it's appreciated.

Windows 10 wouldn't start so I did a new install of my original 7.

Here's the Speccy URL

Thanks again

Does the Windows 7 media that you used for the install contain SP1, reason that I ask is because Speccy shows your OS to be Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 but it also shows the following;

Not Installed
09/04/2016 Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Download then run the All in One Repair from here, disregard the malware guidance but follow the other steps to the letter and in particular ensuring that you first create a new restore point and perform a proper Windows clean boot before running the repair, details for the clean boot here.

Ran update again and it just searched again for ages without finding anything.

Ran another Fixit scan and here are the results

One down, one to go, If you have not done so already, follow the Resolution suggested here

Hi

Downloaded and ran System readiness tool.

Its taking a long time.

It says "searching for updates on this computer" does it

actually mean "for this computer?"

Been going now for over an hour  :upset:

Thanks

Jim

It completed successfully but still not updating  :smashcomp:

Thanks for letting us know but for future reference the Windows update service can take many hours to complete and can sometimes appear to hang at a certain point for what seems an eternity, hasn't always been that way and has come about since recent changes that Microsoft have made.

Hi Phill

Don't go anywhere just yet.

The rienstall worked for a while updating several things inc sp1 and the update client about 20 in total moslty .NET Frame work  stuff but then did exactly the same thing as before.

Well nearly, this is a new error and its something to do with permissions, access denied or something?

driving me crazy. :headscratch:

Done the Microsoft fix but doesn't seem to work showing a lot of fails  :smashcomp:

Can I ask what type of media was used for the install of Windows 7, full retail Microsoft or OEM DVD, a downloaded ISO or a burned copy.

Hi Phill

Yes I'm signed in as admin and the disc is a Dell oem dvd which worked perfectly when I first installed it.

Im currently trying this fix but not expecting much as subinacl seems to be failing a lot.
