Hi Guys,

I hope someone can help me with this - I'm just about at the end of my rope with this issue.

The problem is. I have a HP Pavilion dv6 notebook that I have upgraded to Windows 10 that worked fine for a while but I went to use it yesterday I found that I can't connect to the internet with a browser, I tried using Edge and Firefox with but neither worked with either a LAN connection or Wireless.

This laptop is used by my family but no one seems to knows anything about it not being able to connect to the internet.

I have used the following commands, netsh wlan show wlanreport at the command prompt and have found the failures in the report have been caused by the following issue, "The driver disconnected while associating".

My internet service is ok as I'm using it with my Apple to connect to the internet and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network adaptor drivers on the HP but that didn't work either.  So now I would really appreciate any help or suggestions that may help me resolve this with out rebuilding the laptop.

Many thanks in advance for any help..

Hello Bungy,

Couple of questions if I may;

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode with Networking.

What anti virus and firewall do you have running.

If you have a spare USB thumb drive available download the portable version of the Windows AIO repair tool, see my canned text below;

To see if this is a Windows issue download then run the All in One Repair from here, disregard the malware guidance but follow the other steps to the letter and in particular ensuring that you first create a new restore point and perform a proper Windows clean boot before running the repair, details for the clean boot here.

G'Day PhillPower2,

You have solved my problem.

As you advised, I did the following:

  • Downloaded the repair tool on to a memory stick,
  • Disabled my anti-viris software,
  • Disable the programs that loaded on start up and the scheduled tasks,
  • Did a clean boot of my laptop,
  • Ran the program and from the program did a safe mode restart then restarted it again,
  • I followed the program steps and finally started the repair and went to bed (It did take a while to run).

When I restarted the laptop and tried FireFox it had no problems in connecting to the internet so I reinstated everything I had disabled, restarted and checked FireFox again. There was no problem evident when I tried out a few searches so I believe my problem has been rectified.

Thank you very much for your help with this problem and I appreciate the prompt and efficient manner that you gave me the solution to this problem.

It really had me stumped and the rest of the family will be pleased as well. (I wouldn't let them touch my MacBook so they were getting a bit concerned).

All the best

Bungy

Sorry I forgot to answer your questions in my haste to tell you everything was working fine

I had Trend Micro running and I didn't try running in Safe Mode.

G`Day Bungy,

Glad to hear that all is now well, thank you for letting us know that the suggested fix had worked and the answers to the AV and Safe Mode questions  :thumbsup:

You are most welcome btw  :)

NB: If not done already, please create a new restore point for your new, stable settings.
