On my desktop, the wallpaper has been changed to a large blue screen that reads:
SYSTEM STOPPED
system has been stopped due to a serious malfunction.
Spyware activity has been detected.
It is recomended that you use a spyware removal tool to prevent data loss.
Do not use computer brfore all spyware removed.


It is a wallpaper, not a popup. there is no right click on the screen and when I access appearances, it won't allow me to change anything. Im not sure if it is spyware or what. It is related to Spyware Sheriff so i need help with that too. heres my hijack this log:

Hi there,

I got the same problem,tried AdAware,CWShredder,Spybot,CleanUp,TrendMicro,Panda and HijackThis! wich removed Spy Sheriff but not the wallpaper.
I hope someone has a solution for our problem.

Hi there,

I got the same problem,tried AdAware,CWShredder,Spybot,CleanUp,TrendMicro,Panda and HijackThis! wich removed Spy Sheriff but not the wallpaper.
I hope someone has a solution for our problem.

i had the same problem as you guys and im not sure if this will help you at all but i was able to get rid of it.

go into start menu and go into run.
type regedit and click ok.
under edit click find and type in wallpaper
(before you delete anything you want to make sure its the right one or it could cause a serious problem)
but you want to look for a something that says default up top with no user value and below it it should say wallpaper and thats what you right click on to delete. hopefully this works

Hi Master,thank you for trying but it didn't work.

I found a solution after two days of work and here it is:

Open the attached zip file,you will find a Fix.reg file inside.

Double-click on the file Fix.reg and click "Yes" to merge with the registry.

Then find and delete this file: C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html

Now you should be able to change your background,if not you might have to change your Windows theme before the change takes effect.

Now reboot and your system should work normal again.

(If Spy Sheriff and relating files are not totally removed it will reinstall itself!)

tryt downloading this for future problems it is free and has found viruses that norton didnt find EWIDO SECURITY SUITE. it also got rid of aurora for me

Hi Master,thank you for trying but it didn't work.

I found a solution after two days of work and here it is:

Open the attached zip file,you will find a Fix.reg file inside.

Double-click on the file Fix.reg and click "Yes" to merge with the registry.

Then find and delete this file: C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html

Now you should be able to change your background,if not you might have to change your Windows theme before the change takes effect.

Now reboot and your system should work normal again.

      (If Spy Sheriff and relating files are not totally removed it will reinstall itself!)

Thank you all for the feedback.

My method works fine for this problem,but ONLY when your system is free of spyware.
Use AdAware,SpySubtract,HijackThis and Panda Online Scan to clean your system.

Only using one program won't get rid of all the crap on your system.
