Hi iammykyl,

 

I downloaded Macrium (32 bit version) onto my newer PC , copied it to a usb stick and then put it on my old one as the I can't download onto the old one as it's not connected to the internet ( wifi dongle gave up a while back, one of the reasons I decided to try and upgrade it in the first place).

 

I get to a screen telling me I need a download from Microsoft ( Picture attached). Is there any way I can find out what this download is so I can download it to the newer PC and transfer it over?

Gday John.

Cancel the download then shut down Reflect.

The old computer is running XP.   You downloaded on the newer computer, what OS is installed?  Reflect will download a package suitable for the system it detects, so if two different windows versions, we may have issues.

Had no idea the old PC had no Net connections.   Can you not get another Dongle, would make things easer.

Creating a rescue disk on the Dell utility won't work on the XP,    Your Screenshot, reply 93,  look in the left window under Details, it show your Dell utility info, not a disk .   when you use the created disk on a different system, Boot will fail as the details don't match.   Best we can do at the moment is to see if we can clone the XP drive.

 

How did you manage uploading screenshots before?

Hi, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, hope you're fencing went ok.

 

I have sent a for a new dongle so this should be coming in the next few days.

 

I was taking a screen shot on the old pc, copying to a usb drive then uploading to here on my new pc! :-)

 

I'll try your other instructions and get back to you.

Are the 'ports' in the BIOS the Drive 0 : SATA-0, Drive 1 : SATA-2 etc?

Almost,  Ignore my mention of Ports, (normal terminology).   MB layout, > http://www.manualsli...?page=62#manual

 

SATA0 is where your HDD (Drive 1) is connected.   SATA2 is where you SSD (Drive 2)  will be connected. 

I have amended the instructions, no need to alter BIOS settings.

 

Step 1.   Shut down, > tun off the PSU, hold down the case power on button for 10 seconds.

 

Steep 2.   Install the SSD, > connect SATA cable to SATA2, > connect the power cable, > Switch on the PSU, Boot up and enter the BIOS.

Is the SSD detected?  If yes, 

 

Step 3.   Important,   Restart the computer and press the F12 key to bring up the Boot manager, > select the C disk at SATA0, > press enter.

If it Boots to the Desktop???

Click Start, in the Run Box, type, diskmgmt.msc > click OK

When Disk Management opens, > Go full screen, take a screenshot and include in your next reply.

Shut down.

I connected the SSD, started up, pressed F2 , went to Drive 1 : SATA-2 but nothing was showing. It is set to 'Off' though, should I change it to 'On' ?

No worries.

Yes, set it to on, > go to exit Menu, select Save settings, > select OK/yes, . press Enter.

As the computer restarts, > enter the BIOS again, is the SSD now detected? if NO, post back.

If yes, go to reply #100 and continue from Step 3.

I set to on and restarted and it is detected.

 

When I press F12 the attached screen comes up. 

 

Which on should I go for?

Boot into that first highlighted opton by pressing Enter.

When you boot to the Desktop, carry on Step #3,
