Hello and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Kat, and I will be helping you get your computer fixed back up and on the go! You should either print these instructions, or save them to a Notepad file on your desktop. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, and you will be unable to access the internet at that time!

1. Download CWShredder Here.
Update CWShredder
  • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
  • Click Check For Update
  • Close CWShredder
Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

2. Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://websearch.drs...esearch.cgi?id=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.drsnsrch.com/q.cgi?q=
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gfwlvgh] c:\windows\system32\ocpizq.exe r

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Wow! I seriously love Ewido! That is a clean HJT log now!! I highly doubt your other drive would be infected, but there could be a small chance! lol Go ahead and run Ewido on your other drive. Let me know here in a reply if that one has any problems! ;)

I want you to set a clean system restore point, since so much crap was found in your current one. To do this:

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

How is everything running now?? Any other trouble??

Congratulations! Your log is now clean! :tazz:
Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

Thank you, oh wise one....

Now that this trauma is over (Yippie Skippy), I have a few simple questions for you....

Now that I have several Spyware cleanig tools installed, and reading your suggestions below...

I have MS Anti-Spyware Beta running in the background, CW Shredder, XCleaner, Adaware, PCTuneup (MUST DELETE).

Should I delete these, use them, use only your list ??? (Had Adaware & it didn't stop this mess, but was working alone?).

I almost feel it's time for a fresh re-install, but hate the hours needed to finalize.

I need guidennce, oh kind and mercifull one....

I know many people who use AdAware and Spybot both. (I do!) Update them and run them at *least* once a week, if not a couple times a week.
You definitely need to use a good Firewall and Anti Virus program, making sure both stay updated.
CWShredder is only needed if you have a CWS infection.
You can also use your XCleaner and the MS Anti Spy if you choose.

IESPyad and SpywareGuard/SpywareBlaster are both GREAT. Neither finds and deletes infections. Instead...they BLOCK them from getting on your machine in the first place!

Say NO to reformat! You have a clean PC free of Malware now. I suggest tightening up the ship so to speak to keep it that way, and you're good to go!
