Hi Guys,

Looking some advice if at all possible.

Just bought a new laptop, (Lenovo IdeaPad 305 Laptop, Intel Core i3, 8GB RAM, 1TB,)

I haven't used it yet but wanted to know if I could clone the drive to my new Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD.

I have read somewhere that both drives had to be of the same capcity in order to do this so was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the matter.

Thank you.

no the drives don't need to be the same size, just depends on the amount of data on the larger drive that you want cloned onto the smaller drive, so if the 1TB drive had more than say 450Gb of data on it then no it would not be possible, but in your case yes i should think it will be a straight forward clone and shrink operation that something like macrium reflect should be able to do easily for you.
