Router password problem

Bit of a curly one here, I'll try to explain clearly.

Noticed my wifi getting lots of use, I suppose by neighbour's. It wouldn't worry me except I'm getting lots of buffering on Netflix which is taking things too far. Decide to reset the password and maybe rename and hide the wifi network.

Try to get into the admin. Sticker says http://tplinklogin.netbut looks like the owner let the domain run out and you get a nasty squatter's ad site. No problem, go the IP option with 198.162.1.1

That leads me to a login that is different to the usual admin/admin one. It's in Spanish (which seems odd as TP Link is usually in English) and asks just for password, nothing else. I've tried 'admin' and lots of other default password options but can't get in.

Tried a router reset but that gives me the same login interface, asking for password (not user name) and nothing else.

I'm stuck.

Can anyone help me out?

PS Tried a ping and it matches 192.168.1.1

Also, I'm in Spain so the Spanish interface sort of makes sense, up to the point that admin/admin won't work.

Hi,

 

Please post the exact model of the TPlink router you have.

 

Are you connected to the router using an Ethernet cable?

loki16 , a thought since you mentioned the Spanish interface and the default for most TPLink hardware is 'admin'; actually try the Spanish:

Replied yesterday but see it didn't work...

Have tried via wifi and Ethernet. Now can only try Ethernet as factory reset has deleted previous wifi network details and I can't connect to the new default wifi network.

Hi,

 

- Download MiniToolBox and save it to the Desktop
- Disconnect the computer from any other connection (including wireless) and connect the computer to one of the yellow ports on the TP-link wait 5 minutes to make sure the computer gets an IP from the router

- Run Minitoolbox  and check the following options:

  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log

Click on Go.

My thoughts to date:

 

TP Link Spain have added their own login window. If not them, then who?

 

'New' router admin login window does not accept admin/admin

'New' router admin login window only asks for password.

'New' router admin login window does not ask for user name

 

Router factory reset does not reset from 'new' router admin login window

Hi,

 

Presently the router is using the IP 192.168.1.1 but the router manual says that the default IP should be 192.168.0.1! Not sure if the reset worked as expected...

 

Try to connect to http://192.168.1.1 using Firefox and not Internet Explorer, IE will ask for the user/password before opening the logon web page similar to this one:

The default username/password should be admin I don't think the built-in account changes depending on the language.

 

All this can be different if the router was provided to you by some ISP that did some customization on the router firmware.

I have tried both IPs

I have tried FF, IE and Opera

All result in the same login window

I bought this router from a store. Returned yesterday and they have no ideas. I'll call TP Link Spain when they open tomorrow. I'd like to toss the [bleep] thing in the rubbish!

That page is from another device most likely some other router that connects your home to the fiber optic network of your ISP.

 

Try to configure the TP-Link router only with the PC connect and nothing else make sure you disconnect the cable from the blue Internet port.
