usb hub not recognised

I would like to get some help please as my pc is driving me nuts. It was all working fine until one day it decided that it woudl not recognise my 4 port usb hub. So I bought another one only to find out neither are recognised. Although XP detects that a device is persent it cannot recognise it and it no longer works. I only have 2 external usb ports and they work fine with my modem. I have reintalled xp and it is up to date etc but I cannto seem to oversome this. Help please :tazz:
