My machine is connected to intenet yet the network icon has a red x on it that won't go away.     The bluetooth and wireless adapters are both disabled.   Should I just ignore it?

Thanks

:welcome:   buffalobob0709,

Am I correct in thinking that your computer is connected to the internet using an Ethernet port, if yes, can you tell us where you are getting the red X, on the task bar or in the Device Manager.

I get the red x on the network internet access icon on the taskbar.    It just noticed it a few days ago when it showed a wireless icon with a red x then changed to wired icon with red x.

Can you go into the Network and sharing center, click on change adapter settings and then grab a screenshot for us;

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... Click on the More Reply Options tab then after typing in any response you have... click on Choose File...desktop...find the screenshot..select it and click on Attach This File...on the lower left...after it says upload successful...click on add reply like you normally would.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

Mystery solved.     If you want to let me know how to actually get rid of the red x, please go ahead.

If you don't want to bother, that's OK too.

Thanks a lot to everyone who thought about this little annoyance.

You Go Geeks.

I'm sure I will have more questions about this infernal puter.

Hello buffalobob0709,

Thank you for your patience and understanding  :thumbsup:

Give the following a try please;

Hover the mouse cursor over the unwanted icon.

Left click on it and then drag the icon off the task bar, this will (hopefully) move the icon to the Show hidden icons area of the task bar and stop being an annoyance to you.

I never thought about simply hiding the icon which is just doing its job telling me my puter is not connected wirelessly to any networks.    So with the help of the customize box the network icon with the pesky red x is out of sight behind the hidden icons in the notification area of the taskbar.

Thank you all for your help.
