Probably your video is using the missing RAM.  It's very common for the video to borrow from the RAM especially in a laptop where there is not a separate video adapter card.

If you run dxdiag from a Command Prompt and look on the System and Display tabs it will tell you something like this:

------------------
System Information
------------------
...
             Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 7794MB RAM

---------------
Display Devices
---------------
        ...
     Display Memory: 4008 MB
   Dedicated Memory: 367 MB
      Shared Memory: 3641 MB

The dedicated memory is about equal to Memory-Available OS Memory.  It's a little off but I expect the difference is used elsewhere.

Some BIOS's allow you to change the amount of dedicated graphics memory.  See: the last post on https://communities....om/thread/33279

This happens always not only RAM but also ROM is not 100% usable.

The reason behind the lost of memory is the "cache" in your deceive. Along with this there are some files which are processing somewhere in your device but you do not about them which is also a reason of lost of memory.
