Gateway laptop loop

Need help pls!!!!
Gateway laptop, turn on power and the gateway logo pops up then goes to a black screen and relates itself...I've tried f8 with no luck as well as all f10, and it say HDD recovery validation failed. Any ideas?

Two possible causes come to mind, Windows has become corrupted and HDD failure.

Is there data on the HDD that you would like to try and back up, if yes, this should be attempted before anything else and we will provide the steps when you let us know.
