I have two computers - one Desktop, one Laptop - both purchased in 2013.  Both have warranties that offer 24/7 Business/Next Day Repair Tech Support - next day on-site service that expire this year - desktop on 7/16, Laptop 9/16.  I am trying to determine the value of extending the warranties on both machines.  I am fairly able to maintain both machines myself and only call tech support if I cannot determine if I should update a particular driver or to discuss a Bios update.

Would appreciate opinions on the value of extending the warranties for another 3 years for $600.

What would be my alternative if I let the warranty expire?

Thanks.

$600 (USD) seems a lot of money for the purposes described, however its a personal decision you have to take.

Some folks who have taken the trouble to make recovery discs and have a good disc image or two with at least one kept safe offsite on removable media.... might prefer to put the $600 towards a new computer when the time comes.

On the other hand as computers age there is a tendency for them to become more unreliable.... although many seem to go on for a very long time. ( some fail early, some late and some after just 3 years or so... what is certain however is that they will all fail sooner or later!)

If replacing a hard drive or other components and reinstalling Windows, and its drivers, updating it, setting firewall and anti virus protections and copying across data files from your backups presents no great problems for you then maybe you could consider saving the $600

But if you like the security of your current support package then maybe its better to renew it.

Regards
