I'd like only the esssential programs to load at startup.
How to configure this?
Are the programs which appear on the taskbar at startup the ones that load at startup? I guess I would not need the local area network, Winamp and MSN messenger to load at startup. MSN messenger I do not use at all, should I get rid of it completely? If so, how?
My printer also loads, is that necessary?

that depends on what you want or do not want running.

Actually, though, msconfig while functional for this purpose is more a troubleshooting tool that you can use to test what you want or do not want.

The best solution is to remove the programs in add.remove control panel.

If you'd like. you could post a hijackthis log and kool and I will offer our OPINIONS, but ultimately the decision of what to run is yours.

I just disabled some to load at startup in Msconfig, but have not restarted jet, so this log still is the old picture. Can you suggest which ones I could or should disable to load at startup?

honestly, you don't have much you should disable

The epson monitor programs, maybe, but I actually like them so I get ink low alerts, jam alerts, etc

messenger can go if you don't use it.

ctfmon can go

adobe gamma loader could go

adobe speed up could go.


messenger and ctfmon require some effort to get rid of, though

That messenger is the one I most want to get rid off, let's see if I can ( I'll restart later, download under way ) From what you say I understand that there is not much loading that is slowing down startup or operation, that's good to hear.
- and I try not to install programs I don't use anyway, so I guess no need to remove programs, so kool did understand me right.
