I have a Win 7 hd that I need to clone so I can install a new ssd but it won;\'t boot the os..I created a system recovery disk on my other desktop...can I boot from it and still clone my hd?

I would be inclined to fix ( if its capable of being fixed) the existing hard drive before trying to clone it....( other wise you are just cloning the problems)
and Yes you could use your recovery disc, but make sure all your important stuff is safely backed up ( multiple copies on different media) with at least one kept safe offsite on removable media before you do anything else...
Any problems with this and use a live distro of Linux to copy off all your important stuff...
