Hello,

every time I start my computer I get a pop-up saying to upgrade to Windows 10

and that until the end of this month it will be free, indicating after that period

I might have to pay for it.

So what shall I do? I am not keen on updating from what I have heard and read,

but wonder if maybe next year I might not be able to do certain things with

my current Windows 8.

Thanks for any advice or help, Susan

Hello SusPip,

Couple of questions if I may;

Are you still running Windows 8 or is it 8.1.

Do you have a "Get Windows 10" notification icon on your task bar.

Hello Phillpower2,

thanks for trying to help!

I do have a Get Windows 10" notification icon     on my task bar. And have 8 days left.

Re Windows 8 or 8.1 - how can I find out? Where do I need to look at my computer

Thanks again, very kind, Susan

Hello SusPip,

Use the GWX Control Panel tool to get rid of the icon and any other instances of Windows 10, details here

You are most likely running Windows 8.1 but can confirm this by doing the following (the reason that I have asked is because support for Windows 8 has ended whereas 8.1 will be supported up until 2023).

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
Tap or click PC and devices, and then tap or click PC info.
Look under Windows for the version and edition of Windows that your PC is running.
Look under PC for System type to see if you're running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.

You are welcome btw  :)
