Hello everyone!

I would like to ask some help for a pc upgrade. Attaching some images of my current pc. I need help on Ram and compatibility with my motherboard in general ( say if i want to put a new gpu on).  I am doing a lot video and image editing so i know i need more RAM, but i would like to ask your help for good deals, not very expensive stuff but good. Also its time to remove the old hard drive and install an SSD. Need help on this too.

Sorry for my bad English.

Thank you

:welcome: Pantelis\Your english is good.

What OS is installed?

What software are you using for video editing?

This is your MB??  > https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6T/

Adding RAM to existing for upgrading, especially if it is old, can cause issues.   Even if you find an exact match, the new RAM may have memory ICs, )chips) from a different manufacturer, may have different properties and not run stable with the old RAM.

It is always safer to buy all new RAM, but of course will be more expensive.

The following is just to give you some idea of prices.   Click on "where to buy" at the top of the page.

12GB, > http://www.gskill.co...2800cl9t-12gbsr

EDIT.   Due to chipset limitations, with all DIMMS populated, XMP won't work, so speed will default to 133324GB, > http://www.gskill.co...800cl9t2-24gbrl

Price in the US, > http://www.newegg.co...N=-1&isNodeId=1

Going off line now, will answer your other questions tonight.

iammykyl thank you very much.

I am on windows 10.
I use Photoshop, after effects and some 3d programs. Buy not for heavy render works.
That's my motherboard correct.

I was looking the Ram you mention above, the Ripjaws, but I am interested for the 12GB.
For SSD was looking on this one  https://www.amazon.c...8&tag=pcpapi-20(maybe you have some better solution with more storage).
Also thinking on buying the Shapphire radeon rx 480 8 GB for some gaming too (will it be compatible with my MB)?

All these for around 400$. I think it's a good price.

Thank you very much for your help.

Thanks for the info.

Use this RAM, > http://www.newegg.co...N=-1&isNodeId=1

Before buying, we need to look at your timing of your existing RAM.   Your pics show you have Adata DDR3 1600G (Gamer) but is only running @ 533.4MHz (=1066MHz)

It looks like XMP is not enabled, we need to know that it does work.

First, set the BIOS to default settings.   Restart the computer and enter BIOS, > go to Exit Menu, >  select Load Setup Defaults and press Enter, > confirm changers.   Your computer will restart. Run CPU-Z, > Please take shots of the CPU and SPD.

Here's what i got. I first set bios to default but still the xmp was on auto and the values in cpuz are the same (no xmp). Then i manually set it to xmp but i get only a disabled option and it's greyed out i can't do anything.

Maybe the memory does not have an xmp profile?? Or maybe is something else, i don't know.

Thank you

Please check and confirm you RAM is in the Orange slots, A1 B1 C1

You set Ai Overclock Tuner to Manual,

Highlighted XMP and pressed Enter

The pop up window should display enable as the Adata RAM is XMP, but you say it is dimmed out.

if this correct?   Try the following.

Set Ai Overclock Tuner to Manual,

Select D.O.C.P. then press Enter,

Scroll down, highlight DRAM Frequency and press Enter,

from the available speeds, select 1600MHz, press Enter,

scroll down, highlight DRAM Bus Voltage, press Enter,   (not quite sure what will be displayed on your BIOS,)

May be Auto with voltage values also listed, if yes, select 1.50V Press Enterpress Enter.

or

if displayed as  [Auto] highlight it and type in 1.50v, press Enter.

go exit, save setting and confirm.

On reboot, see if the RAM is now XMP enabled.

If the computer fails  to boot or is unstable,

Renter BIOS, > go to the DRAM Bus Voltage.

select the value closest to 1.54v, or type in the value, > save setting and exit,

If a failed Boot or unstable computer, renter BIOS, Load Setup Defaults.

Hello again and thank you.

Ram is at the correct slots.

You are right, i set Ai Overclock Tuner first at XMP and the pop up window that should let me choose between ''enable'' or ''disable'' is dimmed out. It does not let me choose, so by default is disabled.  After, i set it to ''manual'' but then i got lost, don't know what anything means (D.O.C.P.  and some other options) so reset it back to auto.

I will try later tonight with manual settings and let you know.

Any ideas why i cannot enable it? Am i going for a new motherboard at the worst case scenario?

UPDATE: I set Ai Overclock Tuner to DOCP

scrolled down to DRAM frequency but no 1600Mhz option, so i set it to 1502 (if i remember correctly)

On the Bus voltage i typed 1.50V.

I restart the computer, it loads the windows but it crashed the first time, i restart the system with the same settings and it seems good. But XMP still disable i think. Attaching two CPU-Z screenshots (the only difference is at the 'MEMORY' tab and the DRAM frequency.

I don't think you will need a new MB.   Could be my instructions not right for overclocking.   don't know why the XMP is not available.

The current RAM timing is not standard so would be unstable, please renter BIOS and set to Defaults.

Done some more reading, "The i7-900 series of chips only support a max. frequency of DDR3-1066, The memory controller is in the CPU and not in the Northbridge.  If faster memory is used (such as DDR3-1333, DDR3-1600, etc.) it will be down-clocked to operate at 1066 MHz. So w/ a default BCLK of 133, the DRAM multiplier is automatically adjusted to x8 = DDR3-1066 (533MHz). In order to run DDR3-1600 at its rated frequency, the DRAM multiplier would need to be bumped to x12 for an effective DRAM frequency of 800MHz=1600MHz.   You can use either enable the DDR3-1600 XMP Profile, which is programmed by the manufacturer into the SPD of each module, or manually adjust the four primary DRAM timings and voltage according to their rating at that frequency".

Looking at your last pic of SPD, note that opposite the DDR3 1600G, the SPD is grayed out and the field is blank, this should show XMP, so even though the 1600G specs show XMP, it is not been detected.   There is nothing wrong with your MB as you were able to make alterations to the RAM timing, just I stuffed up with giving instructions.   You could order the new RAMand I will ask a member of our tech team who has more experience with the X58 boards to make help enabling the correct settings.

Using the Adobe software on a single drive is probable why you are getting slow performance.   > http://ppbm7.com/ind...p/tweakers-page

A SSD May help, but not essential.

I would give the AMD 480 a miss and look at the GTX 1060 . example, > http://www.guru3d.co...g-review,1.html
