Help! No operating system!

 

I was curious about a Linix OS, my mistake!

I downloaded Ubuntu and it didn't work. No internet.

I was instructed to download a different version using a software called Rufus. That didn't work either. Was instructed to open a new partition and try again. Ubuntu downloaded but one of the functions on the desktop didn't work, the Recycle Bin kept opening, and I had to use the power button on the computer to close.

I tried to download LEAP, but, unable to plug in to AC, the 15 hour download was useless.

Downloaded MINT, 5 hours.

Was instructed to go to partitions and delete the content and install MINT, using Rufus.

Now, on boot up, I have a black screen telling me “Error. No such partition.”

Now, after 150 posts, my new computer is useless.

 

Any and all ideas, most appreciated...

Ok, understood, as always its your choice and we only recommend or advise certain steps on the forums, we don't instruct folks to take or not to take a certain action here.

Back at the beginning of your topic ( towards the 25th May) you were informed about the importance of making a "system image"

One solution might be for you to reimage your computer with the system image you made at the time so everything is restored to exactly as it was when you made the image.

This should have you back up and running again in less time than it takes to walk the dog.

Not necessary. I watched a short video made by a young guy from Australia. He was about sixteen. In about an hour, I was up and running with Linux Mint. Can't believe I wasted hundreds of hours on this. Terry was right: it was easy, just not his way.

 

But I do appreciate that the Geeks do an incredible service to dweebs like me. And truthfully, I'd be lost without your kind assistance.

 

So keep up the great work. I really do love you guys!

 

And thank you Terry, I figure you are watching. You did a [bleep] of a lot of work on my behalf. Still don't know where we went wrong.

curious though what was different about the way shown in the video? only thing i can think of is he used something different to create the usb stick like unetbootin.
