So the other day I was on the internet and I clicked on link, another tab popped up that told me my computer had been infected with a virus, and said the virus would "activate" in about an hour. I shut off my laptop and revisited it a little later and found absolutely no issues. A day or two later the keyboard on my dads computer (On the same wifi network) stopped responding and wont let you type. I still notice zero issues with my own laptop. Is it possible the virus spread to the other laptop? Is mine still infected? Thanks for the help

We can look at your laptop to see if anything is possibly wrong or out of place. It sounds like a browser pop up scam from a possible scam web page and nothing was installed, the Keyboard issue sounds like it maybe its own separate issue unrelated, or a coincidence.

Lets have a look at your machine

Everything gets download to the desktop and tools are "Run as administrator."

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

• Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
• Press Scan button.
• It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
• Please copy and paste log back here.
• The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

One weird thing was when I turned my computer back on after the alert, a pop up came up that I believe had a program named with two Chinese symbols, unsure, I immediately checked out of the box. Does that sound like something a virus would have? I did some reading and I know it is possible for a virus to be in a system without you actually knowing. Call me paranoid, but I just want to make sure, may have more questions to follow. Thanks, R

As stated in the instructions: Download FRST to your desktop and run it. It will scan your system and create 2 log files on the desktop.
One is called FRST.txt, the other log is called Additions.txt Those logs will be in notepad, open notepad and copy them, then come back and in your reply paste each log in a reply.

Once you have downloaded (FRST) to the desktop, it will look like this below



When you open FRST (Farber Recovery Scan Tool) it looks like this below:

Press the scan button, let it scan for a while, 2 Log reports will automatically open in Notepad when scan has finished. The logs are called:
FRST.txt
And
Additions.txt

Look for those log files on the desktop, find them and click on 1 at a time when it opens, copy it
Then in a reply box right click and paste in the reply, and the log will post to the topic. I'll be able to see it.
