I noticed that this computer was infected with serveral spyware programs. I decided that I try using Ewido Security Suite and the AVG antivirus programs in safe mode. It found serveral viruses and the AVG program told me to reboot to delete the viruses. So I rebooted, and now when I log on in either Normal or Safe mode, nothing loads up. No Taskbar no nothing. The only way I can "use" programs is by going to task manager and finding the programs to use. Here is my Hijackthis log. Hopefully you guys can help. I also used Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy before I did the Hijackthis Log.

Copy the part below into notepad and save it as unhko.reg
Set fuiletype to "All files"

Doubleclick the file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Reboot and you should have the taskbar back.

If you know how to edit the registry yourself, these are the keys that are blicking the taskbar from loading:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\explorer.exe
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe

You will find a subkey called Debugger for those two pointing to files that have been removed by one of your scanners.
Delete those subkeys and after a reboot it should be a lot easier to perform the other actions. :tazz:

One request:
If you still have this file c:\windows\system32\elitekyc32.exe
I would love to receive a copy.
Send it to pieterATwilderssecurity.org (replace AT with @)

It looks like a new variant of a wellknown malware.

Okay I have two questions before I start this, is it best to run hijackthis on safe mode? Also, should I put Hijackthis on a folder in the C: Drive instead of it being in the desktop?

HijackThis will make backups in the same folder it is in. (Usually not very welcome on the desktop)
I usually advise to make a own folder for it in Program Files but for the effectiveness it's irrelevant.

Safe mode could be an advantage on some of the items.

I coulnd't find that in the registry

:EDIT: Wow, the taskbar and everything is up and running after the reboot. I still get that background wallpaper about the trojan-spy.html.smitfraud.c How do I get rid of that, I can't change the wallpaper on desktop properties.

Thanks for your help so far :tazz:

Download and doubleclick:
http://metallica.gee...m/smitfraud.reg

Confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Then reboot once more and post a new HijackThis log so we can see what's left to do.

Also, I have one more question, is there a reason why my installshield takes forever to install programs. It usually stalls at the 0% mark for 10+ minutes, then it begins to install the program.

Click Start > Run type services.msc > OK
In the list of services find:
System Startup Service (SvcProc)
Rightclick that line and choose Properties.
On the General tab Stop and set the service to disabled.
In HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Delete an NT service
In the dialog box paste: SvcProc

Then disable Active Desktop.
Instructions can be found here:
http://www.computerh...es/ch000593.htm
That should enable you to choose your own again.

Copy the part in bold below into notepad and save it as permitall.reg

Doubleclick the file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

Reboot and check under Properties of your desktop if the Browse button is usable again.

Wow thanks! I can change my background wallpaper now! Hm, do I still need to disable the active desktop thingy?

Also, any idea why installshield takes over 10 minutes to install a program? It stays at 0% for 10 mintutes or so, then it starts to install it?

Okay everything seems to be running fine except one thing on internet explorer, when I had all that spyware, a pop up would open causing a new window to appear. The new window was a very small square. Is there a way to make it so if I click a link that causes a new window to appear, to make the new window bigger by default? Thanks for your help so far.
