Hi,

I have a problem with a clients PC he brang it over last night and said he had a GPU problem so I cleaned the GPU reapplied thermal paste and put it back in same problem so I put a new GPU in and it works brilliantly, however...

Upon booting the PC it goes through the flash screen then it says USB Over Current Detected System Will Shutdown in 15sec. This is the first time I've seen this.

Hello EmishOrc,

First check = check that the I/O plate at the rear of the case is securely in place and that nothing has been bent and coming into contact with the USB ports on the MB.

Next checks, disconnect any USB devices that you have connected to the computer, inspect the USB ports and device USB connections for signs of damage, if you have a wired PS/2 type keyboard connect that, restart the computer and see if you get the same message, if you don`t it suggests a problem with one of the USB ports or one of the USB device connectors (keyboard, mouse, printer to name just a couple of possible devices that use a USB connector) if you do still get the same message, open up the chassis again and make sure that any USB port connectors from the front of the case etc to any header on the MB are securely attached and again check that the I/O plate at the rear of the case is securely in place and that nothing has been bent and coming into contact with the USB ports on the MB resulting in a system short.

We all make mistakes, its called the learning curve  ;)

Just shows how easy such things can happen, even when you know what you are doing, no harm done hopefully.

Thanks for posting the solution so that it may help others with the same or a similar type issue
