Thanks for the update thawkins53

Not often that BIOS chips fail but fortunately most if not all are now removable using a pry that is normally supplied with the replacement chip, unlike years back when they were soldered in place :(

Hello. Sorry for the delay.

I dont know if this will work in all cases but as the chip was only about £12 including carraige it is worth the try, rather than buying a new MB or scrapping the PC.
Hopoe this helps others with the same issue.

That is great news, thank you for letting us know that all is now well and for sharing the solution so that it may help others

£12 all in makes the stress a little more easy to manage I should imagine  :)

Hi Thought I had already posted this. My appologies that you have not seen this earlier. First I want to thank you for all you help and suggestions.
We tried many things and eventually decided that the problem was somewhere on the MB. Rather than spending the £150 plus for a ne MB we decided to try and find a new pre loaded BIOS chip.
Found one from China for about $12 including carraige. No competion with the prices. Ordered the chip which arrived in about 2 weeks. We changed the current one on the MB abd powered up. Everything worked immediately and PC is still running with no issues.
Dont know if this would be the solution in all cases but for an outlay of $12 it could save over £125. well worth the risk.
Again thankyou and hope this helps others.

Hello thawkins53,

Something amiss somewhere as we did receive notification that you had resolved the issue by replacing the BIOS chip on October 31st, regardless glad to hear that all is well and thank you for the follow up
