I have a Motherboard ( GA-G41MT-S2PT ) Specs..... It has 2x 500gb hard drives (seagate) and a 600w xtech power supply. It has a pentium dual core E5700 3.00GHZ 3.00GHZ CPU. It had 2x 1g ram sticks one from samsung and the other from kingston.

I wanted to upgrade the ram so i bought the Corsair vengeance 2x4GB 2133MHZ pro series DDR3 (80€). i have been advised that this would be a good upgrade. I did some researcher on my own and i thought that It wil work because it has the right 1,5v the clockspeed is higher but that should not be a problem ( i have read in many forums That RAM automatically Downclocks to compatible Frequency) and it has the max amount of GB that the Motherboard can hold.

*Shut pc down, I removed the old junk ram card, pressed the power button for 10 sec and placed the new one inside. Did the power on again. Al the fans and hardware came to live but then it started to beep continuously for 6 seconds. Then almost 2 second of nothing and then the beeps came back. I left the room thinking that i broke my pc and if i could send the ram back, after 15 min i came back and it was still beeping. Nothing is showing on the monitor and i cant enter BIOS with the new RAM cards. I cant do anything because nothing is happening*

When i place the old crap card back in, it works again. So i do not think that the motherboard is broken. (i hope not)

does someone know why this is happening? Is there something wrong with the motherboard or did i buy the wrong ram. If its the wrong ram then i could send it back. But i will need to know it fast. (4 days remaining for that)

*I have also looked on another site to see if it really was compatible with the Motherboard and it is: link (Cant post??) its on the pc part picker site.

I did some research and i think that the beeps is the following error: Continuous Beeps – Memory or Video Failure Troubleshoot memory, display adapter, motherboard. Gigabyte manual does not say anything els about beep codes and errors. The manual is a dead end then.

**I tried The program Memtest86 but it does not start with the new RAM cards. It does start with the old one's.

**I found out that the RAM cards do work on my neighbors computer. So they are not broken.

**No, it wont boot when there is only 1 new RAM stick installed. I have tried it in both DIMM slots.

I hope someone can help me with this. I have 2 more days left to do a refund so i am hoping that i would be fixed in two days.

:welcome:   brokenknight,

Sorry, got called away while replying  :(

i have been advised that this would be a good upgrade.

Sorry to say this but you have been ill advised as there are additional limitations and compatability issues other than the speed and voltage of the RAM, the capacity of the modules and the maximum amount that a MB will accommodate, the RAM must also be compatible with the processor and at 2133MHz the Corsair RAM is simply too fast for your processor to handle, an explanation and not intended as a lecture, your CPU has a FSB max of 800MHz which is the maximum speed that the CPU can communicate with the RAM, your MB will recognise RAM up to speeds of 1333MHz which should automatically clock back to 1066MHz, if you used 1600MHz RAM it should also safely clock back to 1066MHz but you may have to do this manually in the BIOS if the MB does not do it automatically, safest option would be to purchase 1333MHz RAM but that would not be much use if you wanted to reuse it in an upgrade build at a later date.

The MBs QVL list is what you should always check first when looking at RAM or CPU etc upgrade restrictions, the fastest 4GB RAM module tested and proven to work with your MB is 1066MHz and that is what you would have been best basing your upgrade decision on, the said RAM here (example only) and the MBs QVL/Memory Support list here

Phillpower2,

Thanks for your reply and the explanation.

This means that tweakers.net and pcpartpicker.com and elitegamingcomputers.com did not gave me the right information. All three of these said that this RAM wil just work fine with the GA-G41MT-S2PT 1.0 motherboard. That does explain why they did not know how to fix the beep error thing.

So you are saying that the new RAM Corsair vengeance 2x4GB 2133MHZ pro series DDR3 is to strong/good for this Motherboard.?! But i could use it iif i want to, and then i need to downclock it inside the BIOS.?!

This is my first pc build, and i would like to do a upgrade build in the future. So if i could use the new RAM in this Motherboard, could you give me some information or a link on how to downclock/underclock the RAM without (me) breaking things?

I am guesing this, please say if it it good or wrong:

CAS Latency Time:     11

t RCD:                         12

t RP:                            12

t RAS:                          25

I am not sure what i must do with everything els:

Performance Enhance???

(G)MCH Frequency Latch???

System Memory Multiplier???

Advanced Timing Control???

Hello brokenknight,

Not sure why Tweakers and EGC say that the RAM is guaranteed compatible with your MB, do you have links to the info that they provided, PC PartPicker state here MEMORY TYPE DDR3-800 / 1066 / 1333, Crucial however guarentee that their 1600MHz RAM is 100% compatible with your MB or your money back, see here the RAM again though will clock back to 1066MHz.

So you are saying that the new RAM Corsair vengeance 2x4GB 2133MHZ pro series DDR3 is to strong/good for this Motherboard.?!

The RAM is too fast for the CPU and the MBs BIOS not programmed to recognise it.

But i could use it iif i want to, and then i need to downclock it inside the BIOS.?!

If the computer will not even let you access the BIOS with the Corsair RAM in the MB then the above is not an option.

That also means that i cant change it when i have the old RAM installed, so it would accept the new one?

*going in my history for those links from Tweakers and EGC.

here is the PCpartpicker one. But you are also right about the MEMORY TYPE DDR3-800 / 1066 / 1333. I should had to read it better.

Correct as you would not have the higher settings of the new RAM to be able to reduce them.

BTW, not doubting you about being advised that the Corsair RAM was compatible just curious as to what the advisors have based their recommendations on, as your PCPartPicker link shows there is no mention of the RAM being compatible with the Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2PT rev 1.0 MB and so PCPartPickers has not stated that the new RAM that you have is compatible with your board.

pcpartpicker, i was on this page, i went all the way down and to the left where there is compatible part and clicked the RAM. There i looked for the new RAM, to make sure it was compatible. The corsair vengeance 2x4gb ddr3 pro was on that list.

In EliteGaming computers: I was looking for some hardware upgrades and asked for information. I was tolded that with this MB i could have the latest RAM card. They knew my budget for ram was around the 50 euros. After that someone came with the corsair vengeance 2x4gb ddr3 pro. It has a higher clockspeed but your(mine) bios should lower the clock. And for that to work, i had to enable a setting inside the bios. Then it would work.

**Could it work if i do a CPU upgrade? Or will it only work on a MB upgrade?**

A MB and CPU upgrade would be required as your present board only supports processors up to 1333MHz.

The information at PCPartPickers is usually very good but unfortunately it is not 100% infallible, I have done an exercise to show you what I mean, I have put together a parts list using your CPU, MB, the 2133MHz Corsair Ram, a GTX 480 add on video card and a random 450W PSU, the list is here you will note the Compatibility Check: No issues/incompatibilities found message, this is in fact wrong as I purposely chose an under powered PSU, the GTX 480 (specs here) requires a PSU with a minimum output of 600W and using the listed 450W PSU would result in a non booting computer contrary to what PCPartPicker is telling us.

Got to be blunt, any sales advisor that recommended such fast RAM be used with a socket 775 MB and an 800FSB processor is less than responsible, newer MBs and CPUs do not rely on a Northbridge chip as the memory controller is incorporated into the CPU meaning that much faster RAM can be used, unlike your MB and CPU that do rely on a Northbridge chip which will not allow for RAM to run any faster than 1066MHz RAM.

Not sure where you are in Europe so the following is only an example of what should have been suggested, this keeps in mind your present hardware specs and €50.00 budget, see here
