Hello Certifiably Blonde,

Flashing Icons and erratic keyboards are usually not symptoms associated with Virus / malware, but a physical problem with hardware or a short circuit in the keyboard area. You might have to take that in for service. It sounds like something got spilled on it or hardware has failed an shorted.

There is an onscreen keyboard you may use temporarily so at least you can enter passworrrrds etc :)

To type without using the keyboard: Windows 7 instructions.

Open On-Screen Keyboard by clicking the Start button
clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, clicking Ease of Access, and then clicking On-Screen Keyboard.

Or simply connect a USB Keyboard.
