I have two noticeable problems with my computer right now. One has been a problem for quite a while, a few months, and the other I've noticed for the past week. The first problem is that whenever I open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) it either closes immediatly, or stays open for a second then closes. The second problem is that an IE window opens seemingly unnoticably once every few minutes and closes immediatly. The only way I notice it opening is because when I am typing either in a program, AIM, IE, whatever, my cursor will disappear and I will have to re-click on where I was typing to begin to type again. I noticed it was an IE window causing this when switching programs once with the Alt + Tab method. An IE window showed up but none was opened. Hi Jhoeeey,

I can see that you have some malware issues. This maybe a few step process in removing it. I encourage you to stick with it and follow my directions as closely as possible so as to avoid complicating the problem further.


I need you to do somethign first before we start your fix.

Go to start>My computer> Windows>System32

Locate this file: windnsclient.exe

Right click on the file and you should have an option to compress and email

Email it to [email protected] Please.

Next i need you to

I've emailed you the file and am in the process of running it through that site. It seems to be stuck at the 15% mark. I've re-uploaded it, but it is again stuck at the same place. I guess I just have to be patient. =) Here is what it's said so far:

Download and install CleanUp! Here*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.
We will use this program later.

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Go to Start->Run and type in services.msc and hit OK. Then look for dordo Service (dordo) and double click on it. Click on the Stop button and under Startup type, choose Disabled.

Do the same with this service: Power Manager (PowerManager)

4. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

5. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

6. Open HiJack and do a scan.

7. Put a Check next to the following items:

9. Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

Please remove the following folders using Windows Explorer (if present):

Just a few random bad files to clean up.

• Open HiJackThis
• Click on the configure button on the bottom right
• Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
• Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
• Navigate to this file - C:\WINDOWS\unstall.exe
• Double click on that file.
• HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".
  
  Do that for the following files also, until you get to the last one, then click "yes" when HJT asks you to reboot.

Hey Excal,

I can do most of that no problem, just had one little question. When I ran HJT and went to set up scheduled deletion of "C:\WINDOWS\downloaded program files\ATPartners.inf" the file "downloaded program files" did not open and it chose to delete that file instead. I closed HJT and have not rebooted yet. When I closed the program did it wipe that scheduled deletion from it's memory or will it delete that file when I reboot? If it will, how do I stop it from doing that? I am scared to reboot in case this may cause huge problems. Thank you for a quick and speedy reply!

In theory Thats for file deletion only, and thats a folder, so you should be safe. Also, HJT creates backups of everything, thats Y its important to have in a perm folder

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

A Firewall is a must! Here are 2 good free versions:

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox

Opera

This site is a great source for tightening up security on Internet Explorer settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot
