Dear experts,

 

I need to buy an SSD with min 120 max 240 GB of space: now I have 2 4-years-old Intel 320 that work perfectly. My MB is an Asus Z-87 pro V edition.

Sata or PCI both fine

 

Since I'm very happy with Intel so far, this could be an option, and I saw that Sandisk has got some excellent products as well.

I'm a bit lost in the options and models that are available from both brands. My budget is around 100USD. 

What I would is a very safe device: I can give up some speed for pace of mind.

 

What do you recommend?

Well looking at the various choices, budget does limit what we can do for you, but not by much.  If your an amazon prime subscriber then I would suggest that you look these up there, as you get free shipping.

personally at the moment i only buy ssd's with mlc nand memory, so out of those 2 brands the drive i'd recommend is :-

if i was to buy a tlc nand drive (both previous recommended drives are tlc) then i'd go with this one :- http://www.newegg.co...=9SIA2W01V61639

 

both these drives have a 10 year warranty.

 

 

should also add the larger the drive 500GB instead of 250GB say, then the drive will last longer because there are more cells to spread writes across but 500GB may be out of your price range.

 

to be honest though in my opinion for most people then the cheapest ssd drive is as good as they're likely to need anyway.

If your willing to spend about 25-30 more you can get a larger size and more performance.  No matter the choices given, you will see an improvement over the drive your currently using.  Samsung is by far the best performer.  I have a little bit over everything in various systems and in day to day use they all work just fine.

The Sandisk Extreme Pro looks very good (and still "in the budget"), but the price start to be close to the Intel 540 and Ultra II with ~500Gb, that are too expensive for me.

It will be an app an OS disk only: the existing 120Gb is only half full, so I expect to fill it in not more than ~80Gb

I think I will go with the Intel 540, so I can use the same SSD management tool I'm already having for the other 2.

What's the difference?
