Hi! Nice to be back. :)
Got an error in event log with this location -

d:\longhorn\com\complus\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp

I don't have any disc or file by this name.

Also, it crops up quite frequently on the net in reference to pc problems but is never mentioned specifically.
Is it malware related??

Thanks for your help.

Ken :)

Error text:

'The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing.  HRESULT was 8007043c from line 45 of d:\longhorn\com\complus\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp.  Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.'

Hello the chemist,

Download then run the Windows All in One Repair (free)  from here, disregard the malware guidance but follow the other steps to the letter and in particular ensuring that you first create a new restore point and perform a proper Windows clean boot before running the repair, details for the clean boot here.

Hi Phillpower2. Thanks for your response. Coincidentally, I recently ran Tweaking. As per the instructions I rebooted to Safemode before running the repair. At the time I was hoping to solve an intermittent problem with my internet connection.
I was curious as to the origin and explanation of the longhorn reference and a bit paranoid it might be malware.
Is the Tweaking app a general fix?

Cheers.

Ken the Chemist.

Hello the chemist,

The AIO repair tool from Tweaking is a tried and trusted tool that does not get the recognition that it deserves.

I was curious as to the origin and explanation of the longhorn reference and a bit paranoid it might be malware.

Cautious is good but paranoid not so good, being careful what sites you visit and what a person clicks on is all that is needed to compliment  good quality AV and Firewall protection.

So, any ideas about the d:\longhorn address?
Otherwise, thanks for your help. I'll mark it as solved.
Ken. :)

Could be hardware or software related I`m afraid;

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.

Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:

  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs

Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply for us please.

No d:\longhorn mentioned anywhere there.

You have other things shown to be going on which I suspect could be causing you issues, it would not be appropriate to address any other/unrelated issues in this topic so please start a new thread on the appropriate forum and we will help you there, please give as much detail as you can about any problems that you are having with the computer and include a new MiniToolBox log please.

No. It was a while ago that error cropped up.

What forum should I post in?

Thanks for your help.

What 'other things' are going on?

My network connection is ummm unpredictable.

Occasionally the PC freezes up and I have to switch it off and power up afresh.

I routinely just switch off the power at the end of a session. That's why I get the 'Windows did not shut down properly' error.

Text-to-speech doesn't work properly.
Cheers.

Ken.

Meaning that your original computer issue has thankfully been resolved

What forum should I post in?

Please start a new thread on this forum, name it something like "poor performance" if you are having more than one issue and copy/paste the info below into your OP for convenience;

Will come to this in your new thread rather than go off topic in this thread.

You are welcome btw  :)
